  • Classifications of letters for class 11th

Letter-writing can be classified into two principal classes:

(a) Formal Letters

(b) Informal Letters

Formal Letters involve professional letters, letters for employment, letters to columnists, letters to administrators/Officers, and letters of grievances to authorizations.

Informal Letters are addressed to buddies, families, companionships, and educators. These involve individual and intimate elements such as sympathies, compliments, invites, etc.

(b) Letters to School or university administrations

  • Get familiar with the structure: Structure is very important in letters and you should pay special attention to it. A formal letter has seven parts:
  1. The Address of the sender
  2.  Inside Address
  3. Salutation
  4. Subject Heading
  5. The Body of the Letter
  6. The Agreement
  7.  Sign
  • Being crystal: Be brief, precise, succinct, and to the point in your approach. Use a decent arrangement/format for these formal letters. The arrangement may be in a block composition or sectioned construction.
  • Apply punctuations: The use of punctuation marks is used in the paragraphed form but it is administered within the square format.
  • Formatting: You should never combine the two formats. It would be more satisfying for you to practice and develop the block format which is in practice after the installation of computers.
  • Factual Information: Dispatch facts concisely, and impressively. Intimate the issue in the opening paragraph of the body of the letter. Elaborate your details in the central section and terminate/provide recommendations in the terminal part of the essence of the letter.
  • Language: Use innocent and straightforward writing. Dodge the application of profuse and pompous expressions and enigmatic structures. Be gracious. Even while sticking to a grievance or criticizing, you should be polished and elegant.
  • Follow the block format: There are some things you should always remember about the block format. 
  1. There is no indention in the body.
  2. Each block starts with the border on the left-hand facet.
  3. Additional space should be left separating distinct segments and sections.
  4. Eliminate punctuation marks in address, time, or regards. In case you place a comma in the address, then practice it completely. Do not fraternize the two methods.

(ii) CONTENT

The content of the letter must be well-organized to guarantee transparency and efficient communication. The content is separated into three central parts. Be concise and to the purpose. Mention particular business problems only. The hue should be friendly but conventional.
