Bicycle!! Bicycle!!!!

I am kind of in to this right now and you all will simply have to suffer my intolerable bicycle blabbering. If you are following it on Twitter, it’s #bikedouchery.  There is a growing contingent of tweeting science runners with some kind of chellenge afoot.  Having been a runner in the past, I can say with confident with that cycling is way better.  Once I got the padded shorts in place, that is.

Especially when there are data to be collected!!!  I RULE!!!!

  1. I loved bicycling when I lived in DC and still have a fantastic road bike, now gathering dust in the garage. LA just not as bike-friendly, alas. But awesome hiking trails.

  2. What are you using for data collection? That might be enough to motivate me to get my a$$ in gear.

I have been using the GPS on my iPhone with the MapMyRun app. It’s pretty great. I use it to keep track of my weekly mileage, etc.

  4. @ Isis the Scientist: May I suggest Strava? (www.strava.com) A lot of cyclists use it and it’s a way, way slicker site than MapMyRun/Ride (based on my experience with their mapping software). I haven’t used MapMyRide’s data analysis features, but Strava’s got some pretty cool ones, and it’s very friendly and easy to use. It even has a feature for estimating your power output. You can mark “segments” on your rides so you can measure performance over time, plus you can see how your performance stacks up against other riders’ performance on those same segments. It’s great for becoming competitive with people whom you are unlikely to ever meet. (They have a similar iPhone/Android app that will automagically sync your rides to the site.)

  5. That is awesome. I can’t run anymore owing to some knee issues. So I’m looking for knee-impact-free cardio options. Will see if I can find a bicycle around here as well.

  6. Not sure if anyone’s posted this on your website, yet, but these guys are hot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgCqz3l33kU

Real cyclists just fucken ride and look stylish, not fucken diddle with fucken mileage toys and bullshitte like that. Grow up and ride like a fucken woman, not like a girl.

  8. Sorry CPP but your recumbent is not “stylish”.

  9. I have an extremely stylish Italian racing bicycle, I always dress extremely stylishly while riding it, and I have an extremely stylish round pedal stroke. When I ride by, all of the ladies swoon and ask me what Euro team I ride for.

  10. Can we throw down a cycling gauntlet? Running sucks!

I second the Stava suggestion too… much better then mapmyride.

Really CPP? Do you also shave your legs to go with the bike?

  11. Most importantly, I pedal with souplesse.

  12. Cycling is better? Do you mean… easier? I run, I ride, I triathlon. I can wax poetic on the glories of any of them, and I could debate the physiological/biomechanical superiority of any of them, not to mention the elegant (?) superiority (??) of riding a recumbent (just kidding). Puh-leeze don’t equate longer (distance, duration, or page numbers) with better!

What do you have to say about that?
